When can I start taking a CTE Program at CV-TEC?
Most students are scheduled for a CV-TEC CTE Program when they are in the 11th grade. Your home district school counselor can review the different options with you. Additional questions can be answered by calling the CV-TEC Student Services office at (518) 561-0100 ext 1134.
Would I come to CV-TEC every day? How will I get there?
Classes are offered every day in two sessions. Your home district is responsible for providing transportation to and from the CV-TEC campus location.
• AM Session | First Year Students – 8:30 a.m. – 11:25 a.m.
• PM Session | Returning Students -12:00 p.m. – 2:55 p.m.
First year students attend in the morning session and returning students attend in the aftern
Can I get work experience in my chosen field while attending CV-TEC?
Yes, every CV-TEC CTE Program consists of both technical theory and hands-on experiential components to prepare students for their chosen field. Off-campus work is also available during the two-year program. The Work Based Learning Coordinator will assist in placing students with business mentors in both paid and/or unpaid work experiences. During their senior year, these students may report directly to their work sites up to three days per week where they are evaluated by their business mentors.
Are all CV-TEC CTE Programs two-year programs?
No, our CV-TEC New Visions: Medical Careers and New Visions: Applied Engineering Programs are one-year, competitive application programs for high school seniors only. Students must apply for entry into the New Visions Program during their junior year. We also offer Pre-CTE Programs for students in grades 9 – 12 which provide service-level introductory training for students.
Are CV-TEC CTE Programs credit bearing?
Yes, all CV-TEC CTE Programs have been approved by NYSED for up to five high school credits per year towards high school graduation requirements. Successful completion of a CTE program can meet core academic requirements and also fulfill the requirement for one unit of Career and Financial Management
I want to participate in after-school activities at my home school. Can I still do that?
Yes, you can still participate in activities and sports while attending CV-TEC. The session you decide to take is a decision you make with your home district school counselor.
Are there any costs involved in attending CV-TEC?
Tuition, text books, and transportation are covered by your home school district. Some programs require the purchase of uniforms, work boots, or personal tools that are paid for by the student. Financial assistance may be available to qualified students to cover the cost of required uniforms, supplies, and tools. Contact your CV-TEC school counselor for specific program information.
Can CV-TEC CTE Programs prepare me for post-secondary education?
Yes, CV-TEC students can earn college credits through articulation agreements (page 8) and dual credit options with various colleges. The CV-TEC Student Services Department can provide you with the most current and up-to-date information on articulation agreements.
How do I enroll?
Enrollment into a CV-TEC CTE Program is completed at your home school district’s counseling office. Post-secondary student enrollment is completed at the CV-TEC Student Services office at the CV-TEC Plattsburgh Campus.
